Gens is the best Sega emulator out there. Kind of weird because its completely contrary to every other post I'm reading.ĭo those games use OpenGL? If so, are you sure that's working ok? Use the glxgears command to find out. But its still doesn't run as well as dgen runs on my system. Ok, USE="-svga" got generator to compile. I'll wuss out and use that to configure it for now. dgen-sdl is working well except for joystick stuff. I'm trying to just compile it from source w/o portage now. Looks like generator is the sg emu of choice. Are there any more? Even outside of portage? I have a feeling that the best ones will be in portage. Those are the only 3 emulators I could find. But I've updated some things since then and changed some USE flags. It just quit now. I couldn't get it to compile once before. And I see that its not being updated anymore. I think I really need an emulator with opengl. I think this takes load off the cpu for things like scaling and filtering. Most emulators now, even for 2d games, let you output in opengl. He's talking about the emulator's output driver. When the Sega Genesis first debuted in 1989 OpenGL did not exist and I do not believe that OpenGL was ever implemented on the Genesis. The only thing I don't think it does it opengl but I might be wrong. GENS is definitely my favorite and it's in portage.Īnd yes it can do savestate and fullscreen and though I can't remember the keys for it they're in the menu too. But I can't figure out how to save state with it. It works well except for a couple of small glitches. But I'd like it to be able to do fullscreen, opengl (not as big, but it'd be nice), and the ability to save and load state. Posted: Tue 6:47 pm Post subject: what's a good sega genesis emulator?
